Massage Therapy

By definition, massage therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body. At Recalibrate, we use various hands-on techniques to achieve treatment goals. These techniques can include trigger point therapy, myofasical release, deep tissue massage, and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) stretching. Massage therapy can help restore joint mobility, decrease perception of pain and break down physical restrictions in tissue. On a physiological level, it can be used to stimulate or soothe the nervous system, influence tissue extensibility and create alterations in blood flow which can aid in muscle recovery.

Sports Massage Therapy

Sports massage is a treatment targeted at injury prevention and aiding in muscle recovery. We recommend this treatment is you are an athlete or active individual seeking to decrease exercise related soreness, getting ready for a race or competition, or are looking for a massage environment that isn’t as ‘relaxing’ as traditional therapeutic massage. These treatments typically involve more intense hands-on techniques, assisted stretching, dynamic release, acupuncture and cupping, depending on the condition and patient goals.

Medical Acupuncture

Western medical acupuncture is a therapeutic modality involving the insertion of fine needles; it is an adaptation of Chinese acupuncture using current knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology, and the principles of evidence based medicine. It is typically used to treat musculoskeletal pain, increase local blood flow and encourage healing. Electro-acupuncture can be used to amplify the effects of acupuncture.

Myofascial Cupping

At Recalibrate, we use cupping as an adjunct to manual therapy and exercise. Cupping is performed by applying cups to areas where there is fascial restriction. The vacuum created by drawing air out of the cups, draws blood into the tissue, and stimulates blood and lymphatic circulation. Cupping can also be used with athletes to help with muscle recovery.
